Muscular Dystrophy

Published by punkinlips at 10:58 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Okay. I know I’m gonna get angry comments about this post. But hear me out…

Jerry Lewis has been the icon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for decades. Every year on Labor Day, they hold a weekend long telethon. At the end of the telethon, millions of dollars have been pledged.

As a child, I remember watching the telethon. Jerry Lewis would stay awake for the entire telethon. He would take short breaks, but he would be there for the entire thing. There would be big name celebrities speaking or performing in order to get people to call and pledge. Yes, I remember the telethon as a child. I think I remember them getting around $17 million in pledges, which was an astronomical amount of money.

But I’m 48 years old now and they still hold the telethons, and they have yet to cure Muscular Dystrophy. Why haven’t they found a cure when they get at least $17 million a year for the last 40 years? Does anyone know how those millions are spent? Does MDA have to account for where those millions are disbursed?

It seems to me that Muscular Dystrophy has become very big business, much like cancer, and there are those in power who don’t want to see a cure. If they discover a cure for MD, then they won’t get the $17 million each year anymore. So at the expense of the suffers of MD, they keep it going.

Wouldn’t we all be surprised to find that a cure was found years ago, but was kept under lock and key, and those involved in the discovery of the cure were told to keep quiet, lest they lose their lives?
